Education Welfare Service

Education provides young people with the opportunity to prepare for life. The Education Welfare Service (EWS) is a specialist education support service, which seeks to help young people of compulsory school age and their families get the best out of the education system.

BELB has a team of education welfare officers ( EWO ) across the city who provide support to parents, children and young people who have been referred because of concerns with their school attendance.

The Education welfare officers will work closely with schools, social services and other agencies to provide the necessary help to support children and young people maintain their education
